Once a user connects to your environment the possibility of unauthorized access or virus infection becomes a reality. Even your own employees can bring infected machines into your corporate network and cause unintentional damage to your IT infrastructure. To counter this many IT organizations deploy security and patch tools which are costly and still don’t always manage to stop contain virus outbreaks or security breaches. With the new Network access protection capabilities in Windows 2008/R2 you can now provide quarantine services that ensures machines don’t join your corporate network until you’re sure they are updated to the standards you expect. Customers or partners can now also use your corporate network in a restricted way either to access externally focused applications or to access their own environment over the internet whilst using your offices and facilities.
